Dr Ilyas Ishqi's Awaz-e-Latif launched

By Abdul QadirQureshi (Pakistan News & Features Services) The Chancellor of the Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), Karachi, Engr Mohammad Adil Usman has described the poetic work of great soofi poet  Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai as soul-stirring, declaring that it carries a message of peace, love and brotherhood. “His creative and imaginary thoughtfulness fully reflects the richness of his spiritual thoughts,” he observed adding that Shah Latif calls for a sustained endeavor for the attainment of the objective of communication with Allah by remaining fully dedicated to His oneness. SSUET reopens after semester break

By Abdul Qadir Qureshi (Pakistan News & Features Services) The Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), Karachi, reopened on August 4 folowing the conclusion of the semester break as well as the Eid holidays and the regular classes have started right away. It may be recalled that the university was closed after semester examinations held in June while their results have already been announced. Meanwhile the process for Admissions-2015 has also started and according to the schedule, the admission test will be held on September 28, 2014. According to a university announcement admission test papers are available at the Bank branch in the university campus. The SSUET proposes to start a new BS programme in Electrical Engineering from the 2015 academic year, subject to approval from the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). TDAP deprives Pakistan from World Expo participation

By Syed Sajid Aziz (Pakistan News & Features Services) At this juncture when the nation has been deprived of its representation in world ’ s most important and biggest trade event, the World Expo Milan 2015, Sartaj Aziz, the Advisor on Foreign Affairs has asked the UAE government to acquire its expertise in organizing the next similar event to be held in UAE in 2020. The World Expo is considered as biggest trade event in the world and it held after every five years to the country declared successful in the bidding. This event is almost six month long in duration. Europe becomes popular in Pakistan after GSP status

By Syed Sajid Aziz (Pakistan News & Features Services) “Europe has become popular among Pakistanis after it has been granted GSP Plus by the European Union (EU) early this year.” This was stated by Germany’s Consul General in Karachi Dr Tilo Klinner while addressing the office bearers and members of the Karachi Union of Journalists-D (KUJ) and the Karachi Press Club on May 21. “The GSP Plus status is a proof of confidence shown by the European countries on Pakistan, because of which huge foreign investments are coming here in different sectors,” he remarked, adding that in order to fully exploit the GSP Plus, Pakistan should have to comply with the international conventions it signed earlier. SSUET final semester exams start on May 26

By Abdul Qadir Qureshi (Pakistan News & Features Services) The final year’s semester examinations at the Sir Syed University of Engineering &Technology (SSUET), Karachi, are scheduled to start from May 26 and will last for about two weeks. Teaching in all classes has already been completed on May 16 and the ongoing week has been allowed to students for examination preparations. The arrangements for the semester examination are in full swing and they will be completed by May 23. Meanwhile the summer session will start from the middle of June according to the university officials who added that it will be spread over six to seven weeks  where after the new session for all batches will start from August 4, soon after Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. SSUET seminar highlights role of NAB

By Abdul Qadir Qureshi (Pakistan News & Features Services) Corruption was described as fundamental cause of our deteriorating economic condition and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was assigned with the task of eliminating corruption through a comprehensive approach of Awareness, Prevention and Enforcement.  This was stated by Rabia Abdul Rahman, a NAB Investigation Officer, while speaking at a seminar organized by Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET), Karachi, about awareness and prevention against corruption.  She clarified that there was misconception and ignorance about fact that NAB was not delivering effectively. Pakistan Railways receive first consignment of locomotives from China

By Abdul Qadir Qureshi Pakistan  News & Features Services The Pakistan Railways have confirmed having received first consignment of five locomotives out of 58 ordered with  China . The five locomotives, each of 3000 horse power, were unloaded at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on April 7. These would be inducted into the system after initial tests and used for operation of freight trains, Divisional Railways officials informed PNFS on the occasion. Presently the Pakistan Railways has been operating, on an average, three to four freight trains on daily basis and their frequency is likely to increase with the induction of the new locomotives. The Karachi Railways Division operated 100 freight trains during the month of March, after a halt of freight operation for three years when it came to stand still due to non-availability of locomotives, resulting in a big revenue loss to the organization.
