By Abdul Qadir Qureshi (Pakistan News & Features Services) The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has continued its efforts of spraying of disinfectant in the different areas of Karachi in its efforts to control the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Having earlier sent trucks to spray the chlorinated water in and around the Keamari Road and Mehran Town in Korangi, the KPT arranged for similar action in a couple of more localities of the metropolis.  A spokesman of the KPT informed PNFS on April 7 that a couple of fire tender trucks were used for the purpose of spraying chlorinated water in the areas of Shershah and Nazimabad to make them safe and free from virus.

By Abdul Qadir Qureshi  (Pakistan News & Features Services) The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, on April 6, handed over six trucks, having 3,000 ration packs, to the Governor of Sindh, Imran Ismail, for free distribution among the labourers in Hyderabad.  Speaking on the occasion, the Governor of Sindh disclosed that the target was to distribute 50,000 ration packs out which 7,000 packs had already been distributed and 3,000 more packs were being sent on April 6.  He informed that the ration bags had been collected with the contributions of the philanthropists as well as the institutions supporting the cause of the victims of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  He also disclosed that as many 120,000 people have been registered for the tiger force from the province of Sindh.

By Abdul Qadir Qureshi (Pakistan News & Features Services) The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) continued its efforts of spraying of disinfectant on the roads and streets of Karachi in order to control the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  The management of the KPT, having earlier undertaken the initiative of engaging trucks to spray the chlorinated water in and around the Keamari Road besides the various portions of the port, has now sprayed Mehran Town in Korangi with disinfectant.  A spokesman of the KPT informed PNFS on April 4 that a couple of fire tender trucks were used for the purpose of spraying chlorinated water in Kornagi to make the area safe and free from virus.  The spokesman added that the efforts of the management of the KPT were appreciated by the elected representatives of the area.

The purpose of carrying out the exercise by the KPT authorities was to make the port and surrounding areas safe and free from virus.  Rear Admiral Jamil Akhtar, Chairman, KPT, in a brief statement, observed that their institution, standing with the people at this critical moment of lockdown, will continue the spraying of disinfectant to contain spreading of Coronavirus.

By Abdul Qadir Qureshi (Pakistan News & Features Services) The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has signed an agreement with the National Centre of Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR), Bahria University Campus, Karachi at a ceremony held at KPT Head Office.  The agreement is aimed at establishing the KPT Chair for cooperation enhancement and interaction between academia and the Maritime Industry of Pakistan. By Abdul Qadir Qureshi Pakistan  News & Features Services The Pakistan Railways have confirmed having received first consignment of five locomotives out of 58 ordered with  China . The five locomotives, each of 3000 horse power, were unloaded at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on April 7. These would be inducted into the system after initial tests and used for operation of freight trains, Divisional Railways officials informed PNFS on the occasion. Presently the Pakistan Railways has been operating, on an average, three to four freight trains on daily basis and their frequency is likely to increase with the induction of the new locomotives. The Karachi Railways Division operated 100 freight trains during the month of March, after a halt of freight operation for three years when it came to stand still due to non-availability of locomotives, resulting in a big revenue loss to the organization.
