US stocks soar on strong jobs report

By Syed Sajid Aziz in USA (Pakistan News & Features Services) The US stocks surged at the conclusion of the week on June 5, after the government reported that 2.5 million jobs were added in May and that the nation's unemployment rate fell to 13.3%. It has been viewed as a surprise because the economists had been expecting significant job losses and a spike in the unemployment rate to near 20%.  But the reopening of several states, leading to more Americans than expected returning to work has seemed to have brought about the positive change.  The Dow soared nearly 830 points or 3.2% while the S&P 500 rose 2.6% and the Nasdaq was up more than 2% to finish the day just below its record closing level from February 19.  The tech-heavy Nasdaq, home to Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN) and the rest of the FAANG stocks, also notched a new intraday all-time high of 9,846.  The five most valuable companies in the United States, Apple, Microsoft,...

Australia to persuade Google, Facebook to pay for news content

Pakistan News & Features Services Just a few weeks after France’s competition authority ordered Google to negotiate with publishers over payments to reuse snippets of content in its news aggregator and Google Search, Australia has declared that it will start forcing Google and Facebook to pay news companies for content, in a landmark move aimed at shielding traditional media from the tech giants’ digital dominance.  A mandatory code of conduct is set to be unveiled by July which would require the firms to reimburse Australian media companies for using their news and other content. Creating waves on Social Media networking sites

By Zena Mason (Pakistan News & Features Services) The omnipresent "thumbs up" sign has become an integral part of all forms of social media websites, from Facebook itself to Linkedin, Twitter, the fitness tracking site MyFitnessPal and language learning sites.  Though Facebook has evolved "likes" to include "reactions," there is a consistent theme of judging the content of your posts by how many "likes" you receive. "Likes" can be thought of as a simple barometer of approval.  You post baby photos on Facebook and 50 of your friends like it. You make a poignant statement on Twitter and someone retweets it.
